BOPA Committee would like to congratulate Jackie Lewis on her award

Unafraid to explore areas traditionally outside the remit of community pharmacy, Lewis Pharmacy has made a huge difference to its local community. Its service to cancer patients is a prime example of this approach. Despite cancer typically being the domain of secondary care, the pharmacy team has been determined to make a difference to this group of patients. Not only does it offer in-depth MURs to customers on cancer-related medication, it has also worked with the hospital, local charities and GPs to offer a seamless network of support.

This collaborative approach has been key to another of its notable achievements: support for hospital discharge patients. It worked with the local hospital to ensure discharge summaries for complex patients were consistently sent to the pharmacy – establishing the pharmacy as the go-to place for ongoing support.

A strong team has been vital to this success. Owner Jackie Lewis is the first committee community pharmacist member of the British Oncology Pharmacy Association and team members are trained to deliver a variety of services including weight management and support for carers. Well done Jackie!
