BOPA Executive Committee Members and Subcommittee Co-chairs endorse and support Joseph Williams for the Election of the Royal College of Pharmacy English Pharmacy Advisory Councils

Dear BOPA Members

As the Chair of the British Oncology Pharmacy Association (BOPA), I am writing to ask you to consider supporting Joseph Williams in the upcoming Royal Pharmaceutical Society English Pharmacy Advisory Council (currently called English Pharmacy Boards). All the BOPA Executive Committees Members and Sub-Committee Co-Chairs are jointly endorsing Joseph for a position on the English Pharmacy Advisory Council.

Joseph is a dedicated cancer pharmacist whose leadership, values, and national perspective make him an exceptional candidate to represent our profession at this critical time. His experience across cancer services, medicines optimisation, pharmacy workforce development, and multidisciplinary collaboration means he brings both the expertise and the vision needed at Board level.

Why Joseph deserves your vote

  1. He will put cancer pharmacy at the heart of the RPS agenda

Cancer care is evolving rapidly, with genomics, personalised medicine, immunotherapy advances, earlier diagnosis ambitions, and increasing system pressures reshaping the landscape. Joseph brings deep, hands-on insight into these challenges and opportunities.
He has consistently championed the voice of cancer pharmacy—ensuring our expertise is recognised, our contribution valued, and our practice advanced.
If elected, Joseph will ensure the RPS continues to prioritise:

  • the role of pharmacists in delivering high quality cancer care
  • embedding cancer related competencies into training and workforce strategy
  • advocating for equitable access to innovative cancer treatments
  • strengthening the voice of cancer specialists within national policy discussions
  1. He believes in uniting pharmacy across all sectors

Joseph understands that the future of pharmacy depends on collaboration, not silos.
He is committed to strengthening the links between:

  • hospital pharmacy
  • primary care and PCNs
  • community pharmacy
  • education, research and academia
  • specialist services, including cancer networks

Joseph’s ability to bring people together is one of his greatest strengths. He will work to ensure that every pharmacy professional—regardless of setting—feels heard, represented, and valued.

  1. He leads with compassion, courage, and respect

The profession needs leaders who embody the values we want to see across pharmacy. Joseph leads with:

  • compassion: understanding the pressures facing the workforce and championing wellbeing
  • courage: speaking up for what is right, even when it is difficult
  • respect: valuing the contribution of every pharmacy professional
  • inclusivity: ensuring that diverse voices and experiences shape the future of our profession

These are not just words; they reflect how Joseph works every day.

  1. He will be a strong, credible advocate for pharmacy’s future

From digital transformation to independent prescribing, workforce reform, and the increasing complexity of medicines use, pharmacy needs representatives who can engage confidently with national policy teams, NHS England, professional bodies, and government stakeholders.

Joseph has a proven track record of constructive, strategic engagement at national level. His election would strengthen the profession’s collective voice at a time when it is more important than ever.

A final word from me

BOPA is proud to support cancer pharmacy professionals who are committed to shaping the future of our profession. Joseph is an exceptional ambassador for cancer pharmacy and for pharmacy more widely.
I am confident he will bring integrity, insight, and unwavering commitment to the RPS English Pharmacy Advisory Council.

On behalf of the BOPA executive committee, I encourage you to vote for Joseph Williams and help ensure cancer pharmacy—alongside the whole profession—is represented with the leadership it deserves.

Cast Your Vote as a RPS Member

With best wishes,

Shereen
Chair, British Oncology Pharmacy Association (BOPA)
