This 20-credit Level 7 module is designed for registered healthcare professionals involved in the care of older adults affected by cancer who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in the field of geriatric oncology.
The module explores the principles underpinning high-quality oncological care for older adults, with a focus on multidisciplinary working, comprehensive geriatric assessment, and evidence-based interventions to support complex treatment decision-making. Learners will examine key clinical, pharmacological, and supportive care considerations, including polypharmacy, medication optimisation, and palliative care, alongside emerging research, innovation, and policy developments in geriatric oncology. A defining feature of the module is its multidisciplinary approach, emphasising collaborative practice across oncology, geriatrics, nursing, pharmacy, rehabilitation, psychology, social support, and supportive care services.
Through engagement with contemporary evidence and expert-led teaching, the module aims to equip participants with the knowledge and confidence to deliver person-centred care, contribute effectively within multidisciplinary teams, and support service development and improvement for this growing patient population.
