My Research Webinar – UK Early Career Researchers Cancer Group

The session will be delivered by:

Dr Harshani Green, clinical oncology fellow, Royal Marsden Hospital London

Dr Matthew Fok, PhD surgical fellow, University of Liverpool

 

The speakers represent UK ECRC which is originally a National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) initiative, launched 2 years ago. This is a group of >600 multidisciplinary members across the UK, all with an active interest in cancer research and early in our research careers.

 

Matthew Fok is a PhD surgical fellow based at the University of Liverpool and Harshani Green is a clinical oncology fellow based at the Royal Marsden Hospital London.  They are co-leading the group and have a multidisciplinary advisory committee that aims to be representative of the diversity of our group (scientists, nurses, AHP, doctors, psychologists etc). They are all volunteers and run the group in our spare time.

 The group aims to be able to offer:

  1. Opinion surveys (e.g. explore barriers to careers in research, identify areas of interest, gaps in skillsets)
  2. Increase awareness of opportunities around the UK (aiming to reduce inequality of opportunity)
  3. Training opportunities, links to industry and a framework to support proposals for early-career investigator-led projects or entrepreneurial ideas.  
  4. Offer contribution to a breadth of research areas and would be potentially suitable for researchers alongside service jobs.  Alongside biological/translational and clinical trials research, this could potentially include support with:
  • Health Services Research
  • Clinical Epidemiology
  • Implementation Science
  • Health Economics
  • Global Health Research

 

Please Note:

-Webinars will start at 18:00 GMT and will last about 30 minutes to 1 hour

-The Zoom link for the webinar will be sent on the day of the event around 12:00pm (if you would like the link before this time please email [email protected])
