She has worked within haematology and solid tumour oncology for several years in both adult and paediatric settings across teaching and district general hospitals. She has also worked with several palliative care teams in both primary and secondary care settings. She is an experienced independent prescriber and works across several pharmacist-led clinics. She has undertaken her diploma and MSc in clinical pharmacy and is currently working towards her DPharm professional doctorate at Keele University\, researching clinicians’ perspectives on the care of frail patients with multiple myeloma. DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 17th January 2024 6-7pm GMT\n  \nThe session will be delivered by: \n \nDr Harshani Green\, clinical oncology fellow\, Royal Marsden Hospital London \n \nDr Matthew Fok\, PhD surgical fellow\, University of Liverpool \n  \nThe speakers represent UK ECRC which is originally a National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) initiative\, launched 2 years ago. This is a group of >600 multidisciplinary members across the UK\, all with an active interest in cancer research and early in our research careers. \n\n  \n\n\nMatthew Fok is a PhD surgical fellow based at the University of Liverpool and Harshani Green is a clinical oncology fellow based at the Royal Marsden Hospital London.  They are co-leading the group and have a multidisciplinary advisory committee that aims to be representative of the diversity of our group (scientists\, nurses\, AHP\, doctors\, psychologists etc). DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 13th December 2023 1-2pm GMT\nThe session will include selected posters from the BOPA Symposium 2023. The following authors will share their work during this webinar:\nChloë Waterson \nChloë is an Advanced Oncology Pharmacist for York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals with 7 years’ experience working in cancer and aseptics services. She has prior experience in ward-based clinical pharmacy and started her career as a community pharmacist. Chloë is relatively new to the research world but has been experimenting with the utilisation of software packages such as R to help facilitate data collection and statistical analysis. \nBastiaan Buijtenhuijs \nBastiaan works for iQ HealthTech as the head of product and the product owner for iQemo. iQemo is a best of breed chemotherapy prescribing system and is widely used in the UK and internationally. As the product owner Bastiaan is responsible for being the interface between the customers – their requirements and the development team to allow new functionality to be effectively developed. He has undertaken the NHS Digital academy and was part of Cohort 3. He has recently completed his MSc as part of the NHS Digital academy and written his dissertation on how to successfully implement an advanced Ai driven Clinical decision support system in the Oncology Pharmacy setting. \nEleanor Ball \nElly is a senior cancer pharmacist working in education and training at UCLH. She is a member of the BOPA Education Subcommittee\, an editor of the Let’s Talk About SACT podcast and a member of the BOPA Immunotherapy Specialist Advisory Group. \nVivian Wong \nVivian qualified as a pharmacist in 2019 and completed her residency training at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Vivian recently specialised in oncology in 2021\, joining Barts Health NHS Trust as a specialist oncology pharmacist. With experience in aseptic compounding\, ward-based clinical pharmacy and medication optimisation in the outpatient setting\, his research interests include medication optimisation for older adults with cancer\, chemotherapy induced nausea and vomiting\, and medication management in cancer related dysphagia. \n  \n  \n  \n\nChloé Herledan (PharmD\, PhD) is an oncology pharmacist at Lyon Sud University Hospital (Hospices Civils de Lyon\, France) and associate teacher at the University of Lyon. She is specialized in chemotherapy compounding\, experimental drug management\, and clinical pharmacy with a special interest in geriatric oncology. In 2006 she specialised as an oncology pharmacist.In 2008 Suzanne joined The Christie NHS Foundation Trust as an Advanced Specialist Breast Care Pharmacist where she qualified as an independent Non-Medical Prescriber. She works in an outpatient clinic setting alongside medical oncology consultants prescribing chemotherapy and supportive care for patients with early and secondary breast cancer. Suzanne has her own clinic streams for early and advanced breast cancer patients receiving oral SACT. DESCRIPTION:Monday 26th June 2023 1-2pm BST\n  \nThe session will be delivered by: \n \nDr Roelof van Leeuwen\, Hospital Pharmacist and Researcher \n \nRuben Malmberg\, PhD Candidate and Clinical Trial Pharmacist \n  \n\nDr. Roelof van Leeuwen and Ruben Malmberg both work at the Erasmus Medical Center (EMC) based in Rotterdam\, The Netherlands. The EMC\, one of the country’s leading oncology centres\, evaluated the IV administration process of immunotherapy. \nIs it possible to treat more IO patients with the same resources and maintaining high quality care? In the Connect and Go program\, Over 100 patients were treated with immunotherapy via an elastomeric pump. This ambulatory pump allows these patients to wander around instead of spending 30 to 60 minutes in the infusion chair. \nDuring the webinar the hosts will address several questions\, such as: what lessons are learned? How were the patients monitored? SUMMARY:My Research Webinar – Tips for a successful submission for BOPA-PRUK grant opportunity
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday 29th March 2023 1-2pm BST\n  \nThe session will be delivered by: Dr Melanie Dalby\, Programme Manager – Improvement & Transformation\, Barts Health NHS Trust \n  \nBOPA and PRUK have been partnering since 2016 to provide the BOPA-PRUK Research Award. The award provides funding for pharmacy professionals to undertake a research project. Melanie Dalby has been leading on the award process on behalf of BOPA since 2019 with the support of other colleagues. She will be presenting her tips and experiences of the application process to support you with your future research endeavours. \n  \nBiography\nMelanie has worked in oncology and haematology since 2011. Seven of these years have been at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. Previously she has worked at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Princess Royal University Hospital. She completed a Darzi Fellowship (a bespoke leadership programme) in 2017 looking at how community pharmacists can support patients who take oral anticancer therapy. She carried out this work using research methodology and published her work in peer reviewed journals. She was awarded her PhD in 2022. The thesis was titled ‘Optimising the Cancer Patient Journey.’ Currently she works as a programme manager in the improvement and transformation team at Barts Health NHS Trust.

DESCRIPTION:Session 4 (Wednesday 12th May at 19:00 GMT) –  CLICK HERE to REGISTER\n  \nWe would like to invite you to join our monthly ‘My Research’ sessions. These sessions are delivered by members that have undertaken an audit or evaluation. They will spend 10 minutes describing their career pathway and the next 10 minutes about the research methods that they used. There will be time for detailed questions following the talk. These sessions will enable members to learn about quantitative and qualitative methods and the learning may guide and help you in your future projects. We also hope that this will be a good opportunity to learn about different career pathways in cancer pharmacy. \n  \nThe session will be delivered by: Pinkie Chambers and Bruce Burnett \n  \nBiography (Pinkie Chambers) – Pinkie is a clinical academic at University College London (UCL) and University College NHS Foundation Trust.   Her research activities are all around improving the delivery of systemic anticancer treatments and has experience of using large datasets and prognostic modelling techniques. She has held various roles within cancer including developing new clinic pharmacy services at UCLH and Lead Pharmacist for London Cancer. She the current co-chair of the UK Chemotherapy board \, joint audit\, and research lead for BOPA and chair of The Chemotherapy Expert Reference group at the NCL cancer alliance as well as a member of the Heath Foundation Q Community. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nBiography (Bruce Burnett) – My name is Bruce Burnett and I am a final year PhD student at Swansea University. I have a Master of Medical Sciences in Clinical Oncology and a Batchelor of Science degree in Pharmacy with a postgraduate certificate in Supplementary Prescribing.  My current research relates to the prediction of colorectal cancer from routinely collected health and social data using machine learning techniques. Previously I was an oncology pharmacist with over 15 years experience and an interest in head and neck and upper GI cancers. SUMMARY:My Research - Session 2: Adherence Interventions
DESCRIPTION:Session 2 (Wednesday 24th February at 7pm GMT) –  CLICK HERE to REGISTER\n  \nWe would like to invite you to join our monthly ‘My Research’ sessions. These sessions are delivered by members that have undertaken an audit or evaluation. They will spend 10 minutes describing their career pathway and the next 10 minutes about the research methods that they used. There will be time for detailed questions following the talk. These sessions will enable members to learn about quantitative and qualitative methods and the learning may guide and help you in your future projects. We also hope that this will be a good opportunity to learn about different career pathways in cancer pharmacy. \n  \nThe second session will be delivered by: Nick Duncan and Andrea Preston \n  \n \nBiography (Nick Duncan) – Nick is an Academic Practitioner in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Birmingham and Consultant Haematology Pharmacist at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust\, UK. He qualified as a pharmacist in 1994 and has spent most of his career to date working in oncology and haematology\, particularly in the area of haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. He qualified as an independent prescriber in 2010 and has an active prescribing role in a variety of haematology clinics. Areas of research interest include medicines adherence\, chronic myeloid leukaemia and antifungal stewardship. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nBiography (Andrea Preston) – Andrea is the Divisional Lead Pharmacist for Haematology at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust and part time Cancer Commissioning Pharmacist for NHSE South. She studied pharmacy at Cardiff University and qualified in 1999. The majority of her career has been in cancer services. In her clinical role she is proud to work within an excellent team of cancer pharmacists delivering specialist pharmacy services to oncology and haematology including BMT and CAR-T. She is an independent prescriber in multiple myeloma and amyloidosis. Her special interest in pharmacy research started after completing an MSc in Clinical Oncology at University of Birmingham\, where she met and started collaborating with Nick Duncan.
