SUMMARY:BOPA Special General Meeting (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Dear BOPA Member \n  \nThe BOPA Executive Committee team have been working with all the BOPA volunteers over the past few years to deliver and develop new educational content and webinars\, increase the profile of BOPA by increasing collaborative work and networking\, increase research support and output and creating the BOPA SACT passport. We hope that you have found this beneficial and we always welcome feedback on our work so we can continuously improve for our members and our patients. \n  \nTo continue to deliver our workplan and vision we would like to propose to our members to increase the fees for Corporate Members. We will not be increasing individual membership fees at this time. Individual membership fees were reduced in August 2019 with the development of the new website and have remained at £55 for over 5 years – there is no plan to increase these fees. Corporate membership fees have not increased since 2019 (previous increase from £700 to £800) and we would like to propose a new fee structure for our Corporate Members. \n  \nTo increase the corporate membership fees before October 2024 (the date of our AGM) we need to hold a ‘Special General Meeting’ as per section 26 of our constitution https://www.bopa.org.uk/resources/the-bopa-constitution/ to change the fees of our members (Section 7 of our constitution) with approval from our membership. 10% of our membership have to agree this change (as per section 27 of the constitution) therefore the special meeting may be followed by an online vote to confirm this. \n  \nMOTION at the meeting: To increase corporate fees from £800 to a 2 tiered membership.\nTier 1: £1500 (Current benefits associated to corporate member https://www.bopa.org.uk/join-bopa/).\nTier 2: £5000 (current benefits plus new corporate benefits including more sponsorship opportunities (e.g. podcast)\, and 1:1 meetings with the Executive Committee to discuss collaborations and priorities.  NOTE: these benefits will be agreed by the executive committee after review of the corporate member survey results. If you are a corporate member and have not completed the survey please do this before the deadline). \n  \nSPECIAL GENERAL MEETING DATE: Monday 17th June at 13:00 (BST) \nPlease confirm your attendance at the meeting via the following link: https://www.bopa.org.uk/bopa-sgm-170424-reg/ \n  \nIf you have any questions or concerns please let us know via email: bopachair@bopa.org.uk and if you are a Corporate member help us understand what you would like from your BOPA membership by completing our BOPA survey which will have been sent to your main account holder. \nPlease also see corporate membership policy HERE for more information: https://www.bopa.org.uk/resources/bopa-corporate-membership-info/ \nWe look forward to seeing you at the meeting and thank you for your continued support of BOPA. \nThe BOPA Executive Committee \n  \nAn email has been sent out to the membership\, click here to see a copy.

SUMMARY:A Life in a Day: the power of empathy training strategies and their impact on clinical practice
DESCRIPTION:Join BOPA vice chair Emma Foreman and A Life in a Day Founder Mark Doyle on 7 February as they discuss the power of empathy training strategies and their impact on clinical practice. \nTime and Date: Tue 7 Feb 1pm GMT / 2pm CET \nEarlier in November authors from British Oncology Pharmacy Association (BOPA) and UK Oncology Nursing Society (UKONS)\, including Emma Foreman\, published a research paper with their results showcasing the impact role reversal system (RRS) such as A Life in a Day has on increasing empathy and changing practice in HCPs. \nAt the same time reports into compassion fatigue\, or empathy burnout\, describe the impact and the ‘cost of caring’. Are we going too far with promoting the need to be empathetic? \nIn this webinar\, we will review the report and discuss the impact RRS can have on healthcare professionals and the wider healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors. We will also tackle questions including: \n\nHow can RSS inspire changes in clinical practise?\nWho benefits most – medical students? Nursing staff? Consultants?\nIn a challenging financial environment – should budgets for softer skills development be a priority?\n\nContact us before the webinar on 7 February with any questions you may wish to propose to Mark or Emma below. \nMore details at:  https://alifeinaday.co.uk/2023/01/03/should-hcps-receive-training-to-be-more-empathetic-will-it-benefit-patients-or-is-there-a-danger-of-empathy-fatigue/

SUMMARY:UK Oncology Forum 2021 (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nAfter a challenging year in healthcare\, we now enter a new and more positive era of relaxed rules\, regulations and cautious optimism. The vaccination programme\, continues to improve our working environment and every-day living. \nAs our speciality includes treating vulnerable patients\, the UK Oncology Forum Faculty all agree it would be wrong to encourage large gatherings of cancer HCPs in 2021. We have therefore decided to hold the 2021 UKOF in a virtual setting. We hope to be able to all meet up again next year in person. \nWe have designed the 2021 programme to include important discussion around the Covid-19 crisis and its impact on cancer treatments and services across the UK. But more importantly what we have learnt and the need to diseminate and share best practice. \nWe have worked hard to secure some of the top cancer experts from across the UK and Europe for all of the tumour clinical sessions. In addition to ESMO highlights we will also include important updates from ASCO. \nThe meeting will be CME accredited. With this in mind and to give this first class oncology meeting the respect that it deserves\, we are urging all of our delegates to apply for study leave and to join the meeting virtually for the duration of the course. Some Trusts also have stringent “firewalls” that make logging in to Virtual Meetings difficult and in some cases\, impossible. \nWe could not have delivered this virtual meeting without the unwavering support of our sponsors from Industry. We would like to give special thanks to them for their loyalty and continued support of the UKOF. We urge you to visit them in the Virtual Exhibition and our friends and colleagues from other UK national cancer organisations. \n\nMostly\, thank you for sticking with us. This meeting continues to flourish and we look forward to 2022 when hopefully we will have the pleasure of all meeting together again in a safe environment.\n \n\nWe look forward to welcoming you “virtually” to the 2021 Virtual UK Oncology Forum. If you have not yet applied for your Study Leave\, please do so as soon as possible. \n  \n\nKindest regards\n \nProfessor Ruth Plummer and the UK Oncology Forum Faculty
